The why
Frontal EEG is increasingly part of routine anaesthesia and critical care practice. Waveform interpretation is a crucial part of using it well, but is difficult to teach and to learn from static images alone. Brainwave Neurosim was built from a desire to teach with a realistic, real-time and modifiable frontal EEG, to hone interpretation skills in anaesthesia and critical care.
Developed by Dr Dayle Keown, a specialist anaesthetist at Hutt Hospital in New Zealand, it was conceived in 2025 during his time as the Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology & Critical Care (SNACC) fellow at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge.
The simulator continues to be refined through the input of learners and colleagues equally passionate about the use of EEG, in New Zealand and abroad.
